Find a greener apartment

Elevation 314 in Takoma has lots of eco-friendly features.

We’re excited about a new site called GreenRenter.com, as far as we know it’s the first site of its kind. It lists ‘green’ apartments, and office buildings.

It’s a lot easier to live green and save money on utilities when the buildings are designed for efficiency.  Things to look for include

• EnergyStar Appliances (dishwasher, washing machine, etc)
• Proximity to public transit that can get you where you need to go.
• LEED certification
• Eco-friendly materials
• Eco-conscious staff and management

By using GreenRenter, you can easily make sure a number of those things are checked of the list. They don’t have many listings for DC yet but check it out to find your green apartment today.

Here’s an apartment hunting tip: When you tour the building,  make sure to ask to see the eco-friendly features, if the building is truly green, they’ll relish in the idea of showing you.  If it’s just green washed, they’ll hesitate.
