A Road Not Taken – Film

If you read our article about Google’s DC offices, you probably saw that Google has a solar water heater on display.  The solar water heater came from Jimmy Carter’s White House.

Carter installed the solar water heater at the White House in 1979.  Carter wanted to reduce the U.S.’s dependence on foreign oil.

“A generation from now, this solar water heater can either be a curiosity, a museum piece, an example of a road not taken, or it can be just a small part of one of the greatest and most exciting adventures ever undertaken by the American people,” Jimmy Carter, 1979.

During the Reagan era, the panels were removed during a renovation and never replaced.  They were later acquired by Unity College in Maine.  Google now has one of them on loan for its office.

Recognizing the significance of this ‘Road Not Taken’, filmmakers Christina Hemaur and Roman Keller are telling the story. Check out the trailer of their film “A Road Not Taken”.
