Community Garden in DC
If you have a green thumb, but you live in a condo or apartment building, you can still grow bushes, vegetables and herbs in the city. A group called DC Urban Gardeners keeps a list of local community gardens where you can reserve a plot of land for gardening. Check out their website, which also has a lot of great information.
