Save Even More Money Riding Metro

metro-imageSo you may be thinking what’s in that monster stimulus package for me? Well, if your company is offering tax free commuter benefits, you can now request that up to $230/month be deducted pre-tax from your pay check for use on mass transit. The old limit was $120/month. The new limit is effective March 1.

According to the non-profit, TransitCenter, an organization that helped push for this measure, you could save up to $1,000 a year by taking advantage of the raised limit. To date more that 189,000 area employees take advantage of the pre-tax commuting benefit on Metro.

And don’t forget the benefit is good for a number of the other area transit systems including Metrobus and regional bus systems such as ART, CUE, DASH, George, Ride On, Fairfax Connector, Loudoun County Transit, PRTC, The Bus and the DC Circulator, registered van pools, and MARC and VRE commuter rail.

If your employer does not offer tax free commuter benefits, take a look at our article, Get Metro Benefits from Your Work. It’s free for companies to provide and a great benefit.

Now hopefully Metro won’t use any stimulus money to produce any more of these videos.
