Washington is joining 1,500 cities and going dark for World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Earth Hour on March 28th. In addition to the many area companies and organizations participating in Earth Hour, the Washington National Cathedral, the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Judiciary Square, American University, Howard University, Gallaudet University, the National Theater and the Masonic Memorial in Alexandria will be shutting off their lights beginning at 8:30pm.
Earth Hour is a global initiative that successfully recruits millions of people around the world to make a symbolic show of support for climate change action by turning off their lights for an hour on March 28th at 8:30 (local time). WWF believes Washington’s participation is especially important because it sends a clear message about climate change to Congress and the White House right in their back yard.
