The Festival Will Emphasize Ocean Films

The DC Environmental Film Festival will be in full swing all over the District starting March 10th. The Festival, now in its 17th year, will feature over 140 films shown in venues around DC.

This year’s festival is placing a special emphasis on the earth’s oceans. Among the ocean-focused films are: Earth: The Biography – Oceans, The State of the Planet’s Oceans, Secrets of the Reef, Colour Talks, Cuttlefish: The Brainey Bunch, A Sea Change, Who Killed Crassotrea Virginica?, Sharkwater and more.

There will also be several films that examine life back on the land. Nora! is a profile on Washington’s own Nora Pouillon who opened the nation’s first organic restaurant right here in DC. Return of the Honeybee documents the sudden and inexplicable disappearance of honey bees in the U.S. Finally, there will be a retrospective of Werner Herzog’s 11 environmentally-oriented films, including the most recent, Encounters at the End of the World.

In addition to showing environmental films, the DC Environmental Film Festival will also feature

presentations and question & answer sessions with the film makers themselves.

The DC Environmental Film Festival runs from March 10th to March 22nd. To see a list of the films, venues and dates, go to the Film Festival website .
