Earth Hour Candlelight Vigil Tonight

Candle LightTonight, the world will participate in the World Wildlife Fund’s Earth Hour. Washington is taking part in this year’s events by turning off the lights for an hour at the Washington Monument, National Cathedral, several local businesses and government buildings.

If you plan on participating in Earth Hour by turning your own lights off for an hour this evening, but you aren’t too keen on sitting in the dark alone at home, join CarbonfreeDC for their candlelight vigil outside the Mayor’s office at the John Wilson Building (1350 Pennsylvania Ave. NW).

At precisely 8:30pm, three major landmarks within one block of the Mayor’s office will go dark: the John Wilson Building, the National Theatre and the Willard Intercontinental Hotel. Once the lights are out, participants will light each others’ candles (bring your own if you have them). After a few words and some discussion, everyone will stroll around the block to view each of the participating buildings, finishing the vigil at the Washington Monument.

If you plan on attending the CarbonfreeDC candlelight vigil, visit their website for more information and to RSVP.
