Servathon Bringing $400,000 in Help to DC Schools and Organizations

ServathonGreater DC Cares is a local organization that coordinates projects for 12,000 area volunteers. For those looking to get involved, Greater DC Cares will find volunteer opportunities that fit your interests and your schedule. They’ll even train you for the work.

Each year, Greater DC Cares organizes a Servathon in DC. It’s like a volunteer marathon for thousands of locals interested in completing projects at nonprofit organizations and public schools in the greater metropolitan area. On Saturday, May 2nd, anyone can participate in projects like painting schools, building play grounds, cleaning up parks and more. In exchange for your work, you will recieve a t-shirt, snacks, water and an invitation to the wrap-up party where beer and food will be served to all the participating volunteers.

In addition to being a massive volunteer effort, Servathon is a fund raiser for Greater DC Cares. They ask that in addition to joining in the volunteer projects, each participant try to raise funds to help Greater DC Cares run their volunteer efforts all year round. If each volunteer raises just $100, the organization can implement 1,000 volunteer projects, provide 36,000 meals to the homeless, provide tools for 200 local non-profits, train thousands of new volunteers, paint 3,000 public school classrooms and more.

This is a great opportunity to round up your friends and contribute something to our community. There will definitely be an activity for people of any age and interest. To learn more and sign-up, go to Greater DC Cares’ Servathon website.
