Building Green in Columbia Heights

dccolumbiaheightsmenkitiIf you always wanted to live in a green condo but had a hard time finding one, now you have an opportunity to design your future home from the inside out.

The Menkiti Group,  a real estate development firm that builds affordable housing is working on 16 condominium units in a renovated building four blocks from the Columbia Heights Metro.  But The Menkiti Group is not designing the condo units on their own.  They are ‘crowdsourcing’ the design to the prospective buyers.

Crowdsourcing in the above case is a new business process in which the crowd submits ideas and decides on those ideas based on popularity. The resulting final decisions are not made by any individual, but rather are the result of the collective input of the people that make up the crowd.

It’s a new approach to development that is being propelled forward in DC by CoolTown Beta Communities.

The new green condos will be located at 3318 Sherman Avenue and are scheduled to be completed by early next year. To learn more about the development project and to participate, visit http://shermangreen.ning.com/
