Help Bring Recycling to the National Pride Festival

539377305_8baf8fcff0The National Pride Festival is coming to DC on June 14. The event attracts over 250,000 people, along with many food vendors. Unfortunately, like most big events in DC, it also attracts an enormous amount of waste that overflows garbage cans.

A lot of the waste generated at events like Pride is recyclable, like drink bottles, papers and cans. To make sure these recyclables are separated properly, Burgundy Crescent Volunteers, an organization with 3,500 LGBT volunteers, is leading a recycling effort for the Pride Festival called “BuGREENdy” (get it!?).

Recycling Ambassadors will be paired up with another volunteer to bring full bags of recyclables to drop-off areas, encourage people to recycle,  talk up recycling at a booth and discourage contamination (non-recyclables being put into recycling bins).

In addition to helping prevent recyclables from ending up in the dump, you can have fun and even get a free t-shirt (woot!). To volunteer, email jonathan@burgundycrescent.org. Burgundy Crescent is looking for about 12-18 volunteers for each of their 2-hour shifts during the Festival.
