Home Improvement Saturday: Programmable Thermostat

honeywell1Using energy smarter, is an easy way to reduce your electric bills.

Many people will set their home thermostat and then forget to change it when they leave their house or go to bed. Forgetting to reset your thermostat wastes huge amounts of energy and costs residents hundreds of dollars a year in heating and cooling bills.

Adding a programmable thermostat is a great way to save on energy costs.

Installing a new thermostat is not scary and programming them is extremely easy.

It should take about 15 minutes to install, and all you need is:

  • Screw driver
  • Drill
  • Level
  • Pencil
  • New thermostat

This video from the Sierra Club shows you what to do.

You can buy a programmable thermostat at a local hardware store or at local eco-stores Ecobeco and Greater Goods.
