The District Department of the Environment wants to reduce your energy bills and your carbon footprint. You can sign-up now for a free home energy audit performed by a trained energy professional.
During a home energy audit, an inspector checks insulation levels, window efficiency, wall-to-wall ratios, heating and cooling system efficiency, water heating systems, etc. The audit may also include a blower test where the inspector pulls air out of a room to find leaks in doors, windows and air ducts.
At the end of the energy audit, the inspector will provide you with a home energy rating, from one to five stars. They will also give you some simple and inexpensive recommendations to make the home more energy-efficient.
If you are interested in a free energy audit from the District, simply visit their website or call (202) 673-6700. Keep in mind that almost any style of home can be audited, including townhouses, rowhouses, etc. Just make sure your home is 4,000 square feet or less and that you own it.
