If you’ve missed the burgeoning green events at the Historical Society of Washington DC, have no fear. Although you may not have made it out for ‘Earth Month’ where much of the Society’s programming was dedicated to environmental issues in honour of Earth Day, the Historical Society has embraced its commitment to bring awareness to green issues, particularly relating to the DC area, so if you’re looking for greener options for your weekend activities, stop by!

Starting to break the mould of the traditional historical society.
If you’ve been thinking about urban gardening, learn how to Grow the Perfect Tomato on June 27th from 1- 2.30.
If you’re interested in something more energetic, feel free to join one of the monthly Second Saturday Scavenger Hunts, a family event which will take you on a self guided tour of the different neighbourhoods in the city, a great chance to get out and explore.
And as always, the museum offers an expansive shady lawn, perfect for a green getaway in the middle of your workday- bring your lunch, unwind on a bench or a patch of grass, and enjoy the rare experience of nature in the middle of downtown D.C.
As with all HSW events, all programming is free and can be found either at their website www.historydc.org or at their beautiful home in the old Carnegie library at 801 K st NW.
