Green Business Profile Wednesday: ZimGems
This weekend was quite busy for me, so I didn’t start thinking about a green business until Sunday. My original plan was to go to Annie’s Cream Cheese, a small consignment shop in Georgetown, but I felt queasy and may a little nauseous. So I decided to blog about somewhere close by.
Luckily, my roommate wanted to check out the flea market near Eastern Market. There were a lot of people. As I walked around, I found myself in front of a man selling art made out of cans.
This traveling artist from Zimbabwe, Manatho Shumba Masani, also made African instruments. One of which resembled a xylophone. All of these items were made of recycled materials like cans, spoons, etc. I was very excited about this. Unfortunately, just as I turned on my camera, it died, and I couldn’t get it to start working again. So my apologies! However, I got his card and he has a site. The picture above is an example of his work.
Right now, his website is still in its developing stages, but it is www.zimgems.com. When it is done, he said that you would be able to buy everything online. In the mean time, I suggest that you visit the flea market on Saturdays or Sundays because he told me that he will be there. It is easy to find. Just take the metro to Eastern Market, and the actual market is on 8th and Independence. Next week, I promise that my camera will be fixed. You won’t be disappointed!
