Green Happy Hours in DC

Happy hours and DC summers go hand-in-hand. Who knows if it’s the influx of interns, August recess or the broad availability of outdoor seating, but there are more happy hour specials and opportunities in DC during the summer than in almost any other city.
If you’re tired of drinking $2 miller lights with the same group of friends and co-workers, maybe it’s time to branch out and meet some like-minded tree huggers for some eco-conversation or maybe even green dating.
There are lots of happy hours for the environmentally conscious in Washington, here are a few to get you started.
- Green Drinks DC: Green Drinks has evolved into an institution in DC. The green drink concept began in London 20 years ago. since then, 40 countries and every U.S. state has some form of the group. In DC, the group is very active with over 1,000 members who meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at bars, pubs, lounges, etc. There is no fee to join and there are usually special deals for participants. The best way to keep up with Green Drinks DC is either to join their Facebook group by searching “greendrinksdc” on Facebook or by going to their website.
- CarbonFreeDC: One of the most active local environmental groups usually keeps its members busy with workshops, carbon diets and office greening, but now and then they host a happy hour to let everyone relax a little. With over 600 members (membership is free) CarbonfreeDC is able to put on a serious happy hour. Check out their website for more information on their huge eco-happy hour on June 18th at Guarapo in Arlington.
- DC Treehugger Happy Hour: The DC Treehugger Happy Hour describes their mission this way…”Our purpose is simple: meet people who work or have an interest in environmental issues, have fun, get to know each other socially over drinks, and make personal and professional relationships.” Events are held every third Thursday of each month around DC. Keep up with their happy hours on their Facebook page.
