Green Business Profile Wednesday: U Street Cleaners

3433453870_64e8e7cf13I love clothes, but I also take very good care of them. Along the lines of last week’s profile, I introduce to you U Street Cleaners.

I was very surprised when I saw the word “organic” posted on the store’s front door. How could dry cleaning be green? After all, they put toxic chemicals on clothing.

It turns out that normal dry cleaning uses PERC, a highly toxic substance. With the so-called green way of dry cleaning, PERC is replaced with less toxic substances like siloxane D5. U Street Cleaners also uses hydrocarbon machines that help make them truly organic.

As I was walking home today, I wanted to stop by the place and talk to the owner. Unfortunately, I got off from work late. However, if you are interested, this little dry cleaners is located on the intersection of U St. and 16th NW and has more than one location.
