Metro is interested in making improvements to the system that will enhance the subway riding experience for pedestrians and cyclists. Already, Metro has identified $45 million in system updates specifically targeting bicycle and pedestrian riders.
To ensure they’re planning the right changes, Metro is holding a public forum to hear directly from bicyclists and pedestrians about their vision for a better Metro.
Over the last five years, biking to Metro stations during the morning rush hour increased 60%. That means that over 1,500 Metro riders were taking bikes to the Metro each morning. With the expansion of bike sharing programs like SmartBike and an increase in the number of bicycle lanes, more people are expected to bike to Metro stations.
If you would like to have a say in what upgrades Metro adopts in their effort to please local bike riders and pedestrians, go to the Metro headquarters (600 5th St, NW) this Wednesday at 5:30pm.
