Join the Bethesda Transportation Management Committee…
If you’re reading this, you’re obviously interested in the environment; if you happen to live in Bethesda or Chevy Chase (or know someone who does), here’s a chance to get movin’ and help green your neighborhood’s streets.
The Western Montgomery County Citizens Advisory Board recently announced two vacant volunteer slots on the Bethesda Transportation Management District (TMD) Advisory Committee. The Committee advises the Bethesda Urban Partnership (a non-profit established by the County to maintain and market downtown Bethesda) and the County Department of Transportation (DOT) on local transportation needs, and works closely with the transportation management organization administered by the Partnership, Bethesda Transportation Solutions (BTS).
In addition to managing traffic assessment, pedestrian safety, parking and the need for capital improvements in the business district, BTS emphasizes programs for transit and ridesharing with employers and employees in the Bethesda urban district.
So, while the positions are not focused on the environment per se, they nonetheless offer tree-mendous (sorry!) opportunity to help make the area more eco-friendly.
Applicants must reside within the Bethesda TMD (north of East-West Highway and Old Georgetown Road) or in either a neighborhood adjacent to the Bethesda TMD or the Town of Chevy Chase (one member will be chosen from each area). Members serve three-year terms and meet every other month on the third Friday morning in downtown Bethesda.
If you’re interested, send a brief resume outlining relevant experience, interests and community activities by October 8 to the Western Montgomery County Citizens Advisory Board, 4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda, MD 20814. For more information, call Karen Thon at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center at 240-777-8210, or email Karen.thon@montgomerycountymd.gov
