CityRenewed Marketing and Development Internship

CityRenewed is looking for an energetic, curious, creative, and independent intern for this summer. CityRenewed (www.cityrenewed.com) was launched in February 2009 by a small group of environmental/sustainability enthusiasts as a fun way to stay involved in DC metro area events and news related to sustainability. The goal of creating the website was to provide residents and businesses in the DC Metro area with a comprehensive tool for finding out about local businesses that are “green,” posting or finding “green” focused events, and reading fresh, concise news blogs about sustainability issues in the DC area. As we begin to gain traction and build our user base we are in need of intelligent, self-starters to help us develop content and implement an effective marketing strategy.

Here are some of the Job Tasks:

• Researching and writing daily blog posts
• Using WordPress to post and edit blogs as well as update and maintain the events calendar and business directory.
• Find new businesses to put on the directory that have a green edge to them.
• Visit businesses on our business directory and inform them of CityRenewed and conduct interviews with the owners/managers to get more thorough information about their sustainable efforts.
• Work with our film crew in a variety of capacities such as coordinating film sites, helping with the filming, and maybe even a couple short acting debuts (nothing too scary, we promise).
• Develop a marketing strategy for expanding our user base and spreading awareness about the site. Implement your strategy and watch the traffic grow on Google Analytics!

What we are looking for:

• Self-starters who are personable. The internship requires meeting and greeting people all around DC at local businesses and events.
• Familiarity with basic web tools and web navigation. Don’t worry you do not have to be an expert we will teach you what you don’t know, just be willing to learn.
• We need people that can write using concise, coherent and intelligent language.
• Creativity – We are looking for new ideas all the time on how to make the site more useful, we want an intern that will offer up ideas and be willing to shape and mold them into a tangible result.

Some details about the internship:

• The internship is unpaid.
• The internship is flexible in terms of starting and ending date, hours and whether or not one works full-time or part-time. However, we will expect a commitment once an agreement is reached as to what is the best time structure for you.
• This internship will require the intern to be very independent. We do not have an office. All the people involved work on their own time and at their own places. We will certainly be available for questions, initial training, and feedback but face-face meetings will not occur every day.
• You must have readily available access to a computer and the internet.
